Jan Cutajar is an objects conservator. Currently, he is a Marie Skłodowska Curie Action doctoral research fellow within the CHANGE-ITN consortium (Cultural Heritage Analysis for New GEnerations), based within Conservation Studies at the University of Oslo, Norway.

His PhD project focuses on applying hyperspectral imaging to the documentation and treatment of early twentieth-century monumental unvarnished oil paintings and exposed grounds on canvas. In particular, his project centres around the monumental paintings by Edvard Munch at the University of Oslo Aula festive hall.

Prior to his current position, Jan has worked as a freelance conservator in private practice and in collaboration with institutions in northern Europe (the UK and the Netherlands) and northern Africa (Egypt and Sudan). His training comprised the reading for an MSc in Conservation for Archaeology and Museums and an MA in Principles of Conservation, both at University College London (UCL), and a BSc (Hons.) in Chemistry at Bishop's University (Canada) and the University of Malta.
