This discussion page was started in July 2014 to collect ideas for improving the foxing chapter. It includes the suggestions offered by the BPG Publications Committee, PCC Task Force in 2007-2009. Please feel free to add your own suggestions for improvement.

- List of genus/species weak, should include post-1994 work by Mary-Lou Florian.
- Discussion of sizing as a nutrient does not adequately explore modern sizing agents and processes.

- A. No mention of alum in paper production that could contribute to discoloration.
- Treatment Variations: Metal Removal or Inactivation (13.4.5)
- 2. Chelating agents needs modernizing and updating.
- Treatment Variations: Bleaching
- Bleaching agent list order is not grouped in an obvious fashion.
- Calcium hypochlorite needs to be re-addressed and modernized.
- Treatment Variations: Observations on Current Conservation Practices (13.4.8 )
- Has become out-of-date.
- Light bleaching artificial sources needs updating with current technology.
- “poor rinsing = reversion” needs to be modernized, expanded upon. Light exposure, moisture, acids can all contribute to reversion despite rinsing well.
- Reverse foxing section needs expansion/modernization.

KKelly-Alex and I feel the sources in the bibliography do not necessarily need to be cited in the text as the text will evolved and the bibliography is both a auxiliary and primary resource for our users. I think the articles that directly address Foxing should be kept, but the more general works, like Carter and Hunter are not needed as we can assume our primary audience (fellow conservators) know of these important general texts.
