Detail of a cluster of shibori-dyed leaves near the hem of the kimono, before treatment (left) and after treatment (right). The treatment used digital printed silk as patching material to support and infill the shibori-dyed areas. The padded hem was treated with a dyed-to-match silk overlay. (Kimono, 18th century, Japan, silk with embroidery, Gift of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Emery, Cincinnati Art Museum 1964.783)
