Preparation of calcium phytate for washing iron gall ink manuscripts, following the instructions on the Iron Gall Ink Website (May 2007): https://irongallink.org/images/file/pdf%209_preparation%20of%20calcium%20phytate_ok.pdf. Calcium carbonate powder has been added to phytic acid solution and mixed with cold deionized water. The pH is being gradually increased by adding 3% ammonium hydroxide. In this image, the pH reads as 5.72, and the solution is becoming cloudy. Image taken April 2024 by Jennifer Evers.
